BJP features fish in campaigns to counter TMC accusations

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded retired IPS officer Dr Rajesh Kumar, former DGP, for the Jagatdal constituency in the West Bengal Assembly elections 2026. The seat is held by TMC MLA Somenath Shyam. By nominating Dr Kumar, the BJP is emphasizing governance credentials and administrative expertise.

The Bharatiya Janata Party released its first list of 144 candidates for West Bengal assembly elections, fielding Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s Bhawanipore seat as well as Nandigram. Adhikari defeated Banerjee in Nandigram in 2021 by 1,956 votes. He claimed he would win both seats.
