Ángela Valdebenito resigns as Cultures seremi in Aysén

Ángela Valdebenito submitted her voluntary resignation as regional secretary for Cultures, Arts and Heritage in the Aysén Region after just 18 days in office. The departure brings to 17 the number of failed regional appointments in José Antonio Kast's government. The Subsecretary for Cultures confirmed the resignation due to personal reasons.

The business administration engineer took office after resigning her councilor position in Chile Chico. Her appointment drew initial questions over her lack of experience in cultural matters.

On social media, Valdebenito reported digital violence against her. On April 7, she posted about sorority and kindness, and shared a poster against social media violence, noting it was a general reflection.

The night before her resignation was confirmed, she posted a message of resilience: “I will never surrender; even if I fall a thousand times, I will rise a thousand and one, because I have God, my family, and my friends as my strength”.

The Subsecretary for Cultures, Arts and Heritage stated the replacement will be announced in due course. Local media attribute the resignation to personal motivations.

The Ministry of Health accepted on Sunday the voluntary resignation of Aldo Ibani, appointed just two days earlier as health seremi for the Valparaíso Region. This exit adds to several failed seremi appointments in the early weeks of José Antonio Kast's government. Criticisms over backgrounds and social media posts have derailed multiple regional designations.

Fifteen regional ministerial secretaries have left their posts just over a month after President José Antonio Kast took office at La Moneda. Spokesperson Minister Mara Sedini attributed the exits to thorough background checks uncovering unforeseen issues. The latest case involved actor Renato Münster, who resigned for personal reasons.

The situation has drawn internal scrutiny to the background check team led by Ignacio Dülger, Álvaro Bellolio, and Víctor Valdés. Cases stem from requirement failures, personal motives, or political reasons.

Citlalli Hernández stepped down as head of the Secretariat for Women in President Claudia Sheinbaum's cabinet to become president of Morena's National Elections Commission. The appointment, announced by party leader Luisa María Alcalde on April 16 and approved by the National Executive Committee, aims to strengthen alliances with the Green Party (PVEM) and Labor Party (PT) ahead of the 2027 midterm elections, amid efforts to resolve local tensions.

The appointment of Jeannette Vega as deputy medical director at Claudio Vicuña Hospital in San Antonio sparked tensions with health authorities, who requested the resignation of director Loreto Maturana to remove her. However, the designated interim director, Ximena Parada, and other executives refused to take over, stating that health has no political color. The incident leaves the Health Service without an immediate line of succession.

President José Antonio Kast led his administration's fourth cabinet meeting on Thursday at Cerro Castillo, following Tuesday's ministerial adjustment that removed two ministers.
