Irish-Nigerian bodybuilder Blessing Awodibu, a top favorite in the Arnold Classic South America Open category, named Brazil the world's leading bodybuilding nation. He is set to compete in São Paulo this weekend, praising the crowd's energy and respect for the sport. Awodibu highlighted his first visit to Brazil in 2024 and intends to return.
Blessing Awodibu, nicknamed 'Bicho-Papão', is a champion in IFBB Pro League events such as the New York Pro and Indy Pro. In an interview with Folha's Músculo column, the Irish-Nigerian athlete stated: "If someone asks me which is the main bodybuilding country in the world, I answer Brazil".
He credited the title to Brazilian fans' energy and the serious approach to gym training. "I've visited several gyms here and it's no joke, everyone takes training very seriously. People here respect bodybuilders," Awodibu said, eager to compete and add to the fans' vibe.
On his rivals, the bodybuilder took a positive stance: "Honestly, I don't care about my adversaries. My mission here is to present my best physique and contribute to the show. I encourage them to get better, and they encourage me".
Awodibu first visited Brazil in 2024 and fell in love with the festive atmosphere and local food. "I love Brazilians, I love the energy here. I'll definitely return. Who knows, maybe I'll make Brazil my second home," he concluded.
The Arnold Classic South America, also known as Arnold Classic Brasil, is part of the Arnold Sports Festival South America, Latin America's largest fitness event. It runs from April 24 to 26, 2026, at Expo Center Norte in São Paulo.
