Coquimbo mayor Ali Manouchehri asked the government to declare a catastrophe zone and activate the 2% constitutional fund due to damage from the frontal system affecting the region.
Manouchehri, also president of the mayors of the Coquimbo Region, toured critical areas and questioned the central government response. He said the ministerial deployment “cannot be just a show” and demanded concrete resources for the emergency.
The mayor reported that municipal teams rescued more than one hundred people and dozens of animals. He noted isolated sectors such as Las Cardas, Tambillos and Las Barrancas, plus power and water cuts, sinkholes and interrupted routes between Guanaqueros, Tongoy and Puerto Aldea.
Manouchehri stated that the 2% from the Regional Government, about 2 billion pesos for 15 communes, is insufficient. “President Kast declare the catastrophe zone now and activate the 2% constitutional, do not ask our people to face this tragedy alone,” he said.
