This result gave the lilas a 2-1 aggregate victory, setting up a clash with Cobreloa for a place in Primera División. A key goal from Joaquín Larrivey proved decisive for the team from Concepción.
The return leg took place behind closed doors at Copiapó's Luis Valenzuela Hermosilla Stadium, due to a sanction for prior incidents against Universidad de Concepción. Deportes Copiapó took the lead in the 14th minute with a header from Carlos Salomón, a defender trained at Universidad Católica, off a corner kick. The goal put the hosts ahead temporarily, but Concepción displayed more attacking intent in the first half.
