Egyptian Health Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar met on Sunday with Qatar's Ambassador to Cairo, Sheikh Jassim bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, to explore strengthening bilateral health cooperation. The discussions focused on activating an existing memorandum of understanding and Qatari support for an advanced medical simulation center in Egypt. They also addressed coordination for medical and humanitarian aid to Palestinians in Gaza.
The Egyptian Health Ministry issued a statement indicating that the meeting aimed to explore ways to bolster partnerships in various health domains. Ministry spokesperson Hossam Abdel Ghaffar emphasized the depth of Egypt-Qatar relations and reaffirmed both countries' leadership commitment to expanding health sector collaborations.
The discussions centered on activating an existing memorandum of understanding between the two health ministries, alongside Qatari backing for establishing an advanced medical simulation center in Egypt, modeled after Qatar's renowned Itqan Centre. This facility is intended to function as a hub for state-of-the-art training in medical simulation.
Officials also addressed drafting a cooperation agreement between Qatar's Aspetar Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Hospital and Egypt's National Institute of Neuromuscular and Sports Medicine, aimed at advancing scientific research and knowledge sharing in sports medicine and rehabilitation.
The meeting covered enhanced coordination for providing medical and humanitarian assistance to Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, as well as broadening collaboration in telemedicine and digital health solutions. The Qatari ambassador conveyed Doha's eagerness to expand current health programs with Egypt and pursue new cooperation areas, stressing the intent to advance joint initiatives promptly.
Senior Egyptian Health Ministry officials attended, accompanied by Deputy Ambassador Maryam Al-Sheibi and embassy advisor Khaled Al-Ibrahim from the Qatari delegation.
