Egypt demands World Cup referee Letexier be sent home

Egypt's football federation has lodged an official complaint with FIFA over the officiating in its round-of-16 World Cup defeat to Argentina. The team exited the tournament in Atlanta after controversial decisions involving a disallowed goal and a non-reviewed penalty claim.

The Egyptian Football Federation called for referee Francois Letexier and his VAR team to be removed from the tournament. It cited what it described as serious mistakes and double standards during the match.

The federation pointed to the disallowance of a goal by Mostafa Zico for an alleged foul on Lisandro Martinez. It also highlighted the failure to review an incident involving Mohamed Salah in the Argentina penalty area before Enzo Fernandez scored the winner in injury time.

Coach Hossam Hassan said after the game that the cup appeared directed toward Argentina. Player Mostafa Zico told TSN that the referee's decisions wasted the team's efforts and were unfair.

The complaint accused the officials of blatant errors and discrimination against Egypt. It demanded an investigation and the exclusion of the entire crew from the remainder of the tournament.
