In a follow-up to last month's announcement of plans for a nationwide aerial minerals survey, Egypt’s Petroleum and Mineral Resources Minister Karim Badawi reviewed progress with the Mineral Resources and Mining Industries Authority, confirming cabinet approval to contract X-Calibur for the key 2026 project and advancing a digital portal for mining investments.
Following the February meeting where Minister Karim Badawi outlined preparations for the survey to boost gold and mineral investments, Badawi convened again with the authority's board, chaired by Yasser Ramadan, to assess work plans after its transformation into an economic body.
Discussions centered on the implementation mechanism for the comprehensive airborne geophysical survey scheduled this year, as well as updates on an integrated digital portal to facilitate mining investments.
Badawi welcomed the cabinet’s approval for contracting X-Calibur, which will cover various parts of the country. He highlighted the survey as one of the authority’s most significant projects for 2026, crucial for pinpointing critical minerals and rare elements for industries.
The minister stressed coordinated efforts among entities to meet timelines, achieve goals, and maximize data value, aligning with broader efforts to enhance Egypt’s mining sector.
