Ersson and Berggren become NHL unrestricted free agents

Samuel Ersson and Jonatan Berggren have not received qualifying contract offers and will enter free agency as unrestricted free agents when the NHL market opens.

The two Swedish players are now free to sign with any NHL team. Ersson, 26, had his rights acquired by the Ottawa Senators from the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for a 2027 fifth-round draft pick. He previously played for the Philadelphia Flyers, where he posted an 87.0 save percentage across 33 games this season and has appeared in 143 NHL contests overall.

Berggren, 25, began the season with the Detroit Red Wings before being claimed off waivers by the St. Louis Blues in December. With the Blues he recorded 16 points in 36 games. He was originally selected by Detroit in the second round of the 2018 draft and has played 174 NHL games, tallying 55 points.

Both players can now receive offers from other clubs once free agency begins.
