Fat fire in Brühl injures three residents

A fat fire in a kitchen in Brühl has injured three people. The blaze started late Wednesday evening during cooking.

The fat ignited while being heated and caused open flames as well as heavy smoke development. One person suffered smoke inhalation while trying to extinguish the fire. Two other residents sustained burns to their hands.

The fire brigade put out the blaze. All three injured people were taken to hospitals. No information on the extent of property damage is available yet.

A fat fire occurs when cooking fats or oils exceed their flash point and ignite on their own. Police advised against extinguishing such fires with water.
