Flood in front of Buntet Pesantren in Cirebon stalls many motorcycles

Heavy rain on Friday night (December 26, 2025) caused flooding on the road in front of Masjid Jami Baitul Akbar, the main gate to the Buntet Pesantren complex in Cirebon. Many motorcycles stalled as water entered their engines, while cars could still pass slowly. Police managed traffic and stated the flooding has now receded.

Heavy rain lasting for an extended period on Friday night (December 26, 2025) triggered flooding on the road in front of Masjid Jami Baitul Akbar, the main entrance to the Buntet Pesantren complex in Mertapada Kulon Village, Astanajapura District, Cirebon Regency. A resident's video capturing the pooling water went viral on social media, showing how vehicle movement was obstructed.

The flood caused numerous two-wheeled vehicles to stall as water entered their engines. Meanwhile, four-wheeled vehicles could still proceed at low speeds. The Traffic Unit of the Cirebon Police Resort quickly intervened to manage traffic flow at the site.

Head of Traffic for the Cirebon Police Resort, Kompol Mangku Anom Sutresno, stated that the ankle-deep water pooling in front of the mosque has now receded. “As per the circulating video, the situation has gradually returned to normal, and two-way traffic can pass without obstruction,” he said.

However, residual flooding persists for about 500 meters toward the railway tracks, just before the flyover, at around ankle height. At that point, many motorcycles cannot pass, but cars can continue safely.

This incident occurred amid high rainfall affecting the Cirebon area. The Cirebon City Police Resort recorded 18 flood points in residential areas and roads from December 20 to 28, 2025. Additionally, police urged the public not to be swayed by re-uploaded old videos, such as the viral flood in Lobunta Housing, which was actually footage from December 2024.
