Prof. Joash Amupitan, the INEC chairman, gave the assurance during a courtesy call on General Abdulsalam Abubakar at his residence in Minna, Niger State, on Friday. He led a delegation that included national commissioners and other officials. Amupitan described Abubakar as the father of democracy in Nigeria for his role in the 1999 transition to civilian rule and praised his work with the National Peace Committee.
Abubakar urged Nigerians to support INEC and expressed confidence in Amupitan's leadership. Earlier that day, Amupitan met with INEC staff in Niger State and stressed the need for integrity in the field. He also announced a review of staff welfare packages.
