スコットランドのart-folkシンガーソングライター、Jacob Alonは、2026年1月19日にBBC Radio 1のJack Saundersにより、2026年BRITs Critics’ Choice賞の受賞者として発表された。Island Records所属の24歳のアーティストは、PolydorのRose GrayとCapitol RecordsのSienna Spiroという短縮リストのノミネートを破った。この賞は2008年に導入され、2025年10月31日時点でOfficial U.K. ChartsでTop 20アルバムを達成しておらず、Top 20シングルが1曲を超えていない新進英国才能を表彰する。BRITs Voting Academyの1,200人のメンバーが選出する。 これまでの受賞者には、2008年のAdele、2009年のFlorence + the Machine、2010年のEllie Goulding、2014年のSam Smith、2019年のSam Fender、2024年のThe Last Dinner Party、2025年のMyles Smithが含まれる。この賞は2020年からRising Star Awardと呼ばれていたが、2026年に元の名前に戻る。 Alonの勝利は、2025年5月にDan Careyがプロデュースしたデビューアルバム「In Limerence」のリリースに続く。この作品はMercury Prizeの短縮リストに選ばれたが、Sam Fenderの「People Watching」に敗れ、Billboard U.K.の年間アルバムリストにも登場した。声明でAlonは次のように述べた：「Taing mhòr to the critics for recognising my work for this award, you absolute dotes!
