President William Ruto congratulated both fighters in an X post on April 5: “Congratulations, Majembe (Portifas Odipo), on your victory against Mbavu Destroyer (Ferdinand Omondi) in yesterday’s Vurugu Championship. Both of you put up a spirited fight, delivering an entertaining match that kept us on edge, too close to call.” He pledged government backing for boxing: "We commit to sustain this momentum by supporting the sport, investing in talent, and creating opportunities to grow boxing across the country."
Majembe will receive Ksh1 million from President Ruto, Ksh1 million official fight prize announced by Obinna, a Toyota Noah worth around Ksh4 million from a betting company sponsor, and a Taro GP1 sport bike valued at over Ksh385,000. Additional perks include a one-year gym subscription and supplements. Mbavu Destroyer is set to get Ksh1 million from Ruto.
Prominent figures supported the event, including Oburu Odinga with Ksh1 million, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino who bought over 500 tickets, Kasarani MP Ronald Karauri with Ksh2 million, former second lady Dorcas Gachagua with Ksh400,000, George Ruto with Ksh500,000, and Oketch Salah with Ksh200,000. It remains unclear whether these donations went directly to the boxers or covered event logistics.
