Man accused of sexual abuse dies after jumping from La Plata tribunals

A 37-year-old man accused of child sexual abuse died on Tuesday at San Martín Hospital in La Plata after jumping from the fourth floor of the criminal tribunals. The suspect, detained since March 3, leaped during a statement and landed on a judge's car. The case for his death was reclassified as suicide.

Miguel Zacarías, 37 years old, was charged with the crime of sexual abuse with carnal access against an 11-year-old girl, the sister of his partner. Detained since March 3, 2026, he was transferred from the Sixth Police Station in Tolosa to the Criminal Tribunals of La Plata to receive advice from the No. 4 Penal Defense Office. During the statement process, the man had a discussion with another person and, in a moment of oversight by authorities, went to a window and jumped into the void.

The fall took place in the internal patio of the judicial building, in the parking area for court staff. Zacarías landed on a vehicle belonging to Judge Eduardo Silva Pelossi, causing damage to the front. He was rushed to San Martín Hospital with polytrauma and multiple fractures, where hours later his death was confirmed due to brain death.

The sexual abuse investigation was handled by the 15th Prosecutor's Office of La Plata, led by prosecutor Cecilia Corfield. Following the incident, an initial file was opened for attempted suicide, but it was later reclassified as completed suicide. The event caused tension in the judicial building, with a large security and medical operation. Judicial sources confirmed that the man was waiting for a meeting related to his criminal case when the episode occurred.
