Solomon Islands' Mataks won the 2025 OFC Futsal Men’s Champions League title with an 8-7 victory on penalties against New Zealand's Waikato Rapids after a 4-4 draw in the final at Vodafone Arena in Suva. The match went to extra time following a dramatic late equalizer. Mataks became the second Solomon Islands team to lift the trophy.
The final, played on November 23, 2025, showcased intense competition between the unbeaten Waikato Rapids, aiming to become the first New Zealand side to win the title, and Mataks, who had lost narrowly to AS PTT in the previous year's final and sought to emulate 2019 champions Kooline.
Both teams began cautiously, with Waikato Rapids striking first in the 8th minute through Benjamin Bordin's powerful free-kick into the top of the net. Mataks equalized a minute later via Calvin Do’oro's free-kick. Bordin scored again in the 14th minute from a set piece, giving Waikato a 2-1 lead at halftime.
After the break, Mataks leveled the score in the 21st minute with Owen Bunabo finishing a quick counter after Elis Mana won possession. Eddie Kasute’e put Mataks ahead 3-2 in the 26th minute on another counter. Maxwell Erickson equalized for Waikato in the 29th minute.
The score remained tied through regulation, leading to two five-minute extra-time periods. In the 49th minute, Do’oro scored his second to seemingly secure victory for Mataks. However, with five seconds left, Erickson netted his second to force penalties—the first in competition history.
The shootout went to sudden death after misses from both sides, lasting 50 minutes and 18 kicks. Waikato's George Dixon blasted his penalty over the bar, handing Mataks the 8-7 win and their first continental title after starting the tournament with two losses. Waikato finished as runners-up in their debut campaign, praised for their resilience.
