Lawyer Miriam González Durántez has registered the party Democracia 21 through third parties. Sources from her team confirm it is a preventive administrative step before deciding whether to run in the 2027 general elections.
The Interior Ministry's Registry of Parties recorded the registration on June 24, 2026, in the name of Alfonso Sánchez-Macián. The website domain is registered to Roberto Álvarez Carretero, a member of the España Mejor platform, and the party is listed at a business building in Pozuelo de Alarcón, Madrid.
González, founder of the España Mejor movement and wife of former British deputy prime minister Nick Clegg, has been preparing this move for months. In prior interviews from 2025 and 2026 she indicated she was considering creating a new political option if current parties did not act to improve the system.
Her team states no decision has been made and it will be addressed after the summer. The name of the candidacy could change according to the statutes. González has promoted an ethical code with 99 measures that she sent in 2025 to 400 institutions, none of which signed it.
