Ten African nations, including heavy favourites Morocco, are set to compete in the expanded 2026 FIFA World Cup co-hosted by Mexico, the US and Canada.
Morocco enters the tournament as the standout African side after reaching the semifinals in 2022. The Atlas Lions, now coached by Mohamed Ouahbi, are drawn in Group C with Brazil, Scotland and Haiti.
Goalkeeper Yassine Bounou highlighted the squad’s quality and mindset. He said the team aims to build on recent progress while acknowledging stronger favourites exist.
Senegal, Egypt, Ghana, Algeria, Tunisia, Ivory Coast, Cape Verde, South Africa and the Democratic Republic of Congo complete Africa’s representation. Senegal faces France in Group I, while Cape Verde makes its World Cup debut in Group H.
The continent benefits from the tournament’s expansion to 48 teams, doubling its previous allocation of five sides.
