Osun governor Adeleke joins Accord Party after leaving PDP

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has joined the Accord Party days after resigning from the Peoples Democratic Party, announcing his bid for re-election in 2026. He made the declaration at the Government House in the presence of party leaders. Adeleke cited alignment with the party's welfare-focused mission as a key reason for the switch.

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke formally joined the Accord Party on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, surrounded by national and state leaders of the party. This move comes shortly after his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which he announced on December 2 following weeks of consultations.

Adeleke revealed that he had actually joined the Accord Party more than a month earlier, precisely on November 6, 2025, as a platform for his second-term bid in the 2026 elections. In a statement on his Instagram page, he explained his departure from the PDP: “Due to the ongoing crisis within the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (#OfficialPDPNig) at the national level, I officially conveyed my resignation letter as a member to the party leadership in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North Local Government on November 4, 2025.” He expressed gratitude to the PDP for opportunities that led to his roles as a senator and now governor.

During the announcement, Adeleke emphasized the Accord Party's philosophy of welfarism, which matches his administration's priorities. “Since I joined the party more than a month ago, I have been fascinated by the philosophy of this great party. The focus on people’s welfare should always be at the heart of public leadership,” he said. He highlighted ongoing efforts in infrastructure and social services, stating, “As a governor, I have prioritised the welfare of our people, from workers to the entire citizenry. Day and night, we implement policies and programmes to elevate the well-being of our people. From infrastructure to social services, Osun has never had it so good in governance and service delivery.”

Adeleke called for unity across Osun's regions—from Osun West to East and Central, including areas like Igbomina, Ijeshaland, Ifeland, Osogbo, Iwoland, and Ede—urging support for continuity in 2026. “Osun voted for good governance in 2022, and they will support continuity in 2026. The mass of our people are for continuity, and Accord is our party for victory next year,” he declared. Stakeholders and residents were informed of his decision, positioning the Accord Party to sustain inclusive leadership and good governance in the state.
