President Prabowo Subianto approved a multiyear budget scheme for national athlete training centers on Friday, June 19, 2026.
Youth and Sports Minister Erick Thohir conveyed the approval after a meeting at Prabowo's residence in Hambalang, Bogor. Erick said the President responded positively to proposals for long-term sports development support.
"Earlier the President also asked about preparations for the long term of national sports," Erick said. He explained that national training cannot rely on annual budgets as it requires program certainty.
In the same meeting, Prabowo also received Indonesia national team coach John Herdman. Erick relayed the President's light remark that the reception was because the team had shown positive results.
Prabowo affirmed full government support for PSSI programs, including preparations for 2030 World Cup qualifiers starting in September 2027.
