Rassie Erasmus selects young talents for Springbok alignment camp

Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus has named a 40-man squad featuring several promising young players for the team's second alignment camp of the season.

The camp, scheduled for 19 to 21 May in Cape Town, comes five weeks before South Africa's international season opens against the Barbarians on 20 June. Erasmus included dynamic players such as Lions flank Sibabalwe Mahashe, No 8 Francke Horne, and 18-year-old Sharks back Zekhethelo Siyaya, along with current Junior Bok captain Riley Norton and returning Bulls scrumhalf Embrose Papier.

The group comprises 25 forwards and 15 backs, with 10 uncapped players invited. Erasmus emphasised the camp's purpose, stating it will expose the players to the team's environment and standards. He noted that injured or rested players remain in long-term plans.

With several senior locks sidelined, the selections highlight efforts to build squad depth. The full international schedule includes matches against England, Scotland, Wales, Argentina, New Zealand, Australia and others later this year.
