Reports indicate the third ODI against England at Lord's on July 19 could be Rohit Sharma's final international match as selectors prepare to back younger players.
A senior BCCI source said the selection committee wants to give Yashasvi Jaiswal consistent opportunities ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup.
Chairman Ajit Agarkar and the panel believe Jaiswal needs around 20 ODI matches before the next major tournament. The source added that no one can ask Rohit Sharma to retire but selectors aim to plan for the future starting with the home series against West Indies in September.
Rohit Sharma has already retired from Test and T20I cricket. In his last eight ODIs he has scored 241 runs at an average of 30.1.
