Rural corridor development launches in Arsi and Arsi-Boricha zones

Following Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed's announcement, Ethiopia's government has begun rural corridor development in the Arsi and Arsi-Boricha zones, extending urban corridor successes nationwide from Addis Ababa to foster equitable growth and improve rural living standards.

Building on urban corridor projects that have boosted city livelihoods, the rural initiative—first outlined by PM Abiy in March—now launches practical development to connect towns and reduce rural-to-urban migration.

Starting in Arsi and Arsi-Boricha, the project creates stable jobs, particularly for women, and low-cost community centers using local resources. It addresses the harsh living conditions in rural homes, despite agricultural productivity, and counters youth exodus that threatens farming.

By delivering economic, social, and educational benefits, the national effort promotes sustainable communities with modern amenities, transforming rural life across regions.
