Samuel García replies to Toluca on social media over Liga MX final

Nuevo León's governor, Samuel García, responded to Toluca's provocation on social media after Rayados' elimination, predicting a Tigres victory in the Liga MX Apertura 2025 final.

Samuel García, Nuevo León's governor and Tigres fan, joined the social media fray after Rayados de Monterrey's elimination by Toluca in the Liga MX Apertura 2025 semifinals. On Saturday, Toluca beat Monterrey 3-2 at Estadio Nemesio Diez, tying the aggregate 3-3 but advancing due to a better regular-season position. Toluca's goals came from Federico Pereira, Paulinho, and Helinho, while Sergio Ramos and Roberto de la Rosa scored for Monterrey in a dramatic finish saved by goalkeeper Hugo González.

On social media, Toluca shared a photo of Ramos celebrating a penalty with a silence gesture, captioned: “Silencio, que la pandilla ya está descansando”, mocking Rayados fans. García replied: “Descansando te van a dejar los Tigres, papá”.

Tigres also reached the final by tying Cruz Azul 1-1 on aggregate 2-2, owing to their superior regular-season standing. Juan Brunetta scored for Tigres, and an own goal by Juan Purata gave Cruz Azul their tally, after Gabriel Fernández missed a penalty. This final, which García had predicted as a Clásico Regio but did not materialize, is tentatively set for Thursday, December 11, and Sunday, December 14. Tigres aims for their ninth league title, matching Cruz Azul, while Toluca seeks a back-to-back championship under Antonio Mohamed.
