SMHI warns of extreme fire risk in parts of Sweden

SMHI has flagged a high to extremely high risk of forest fires across nearly half of Sweden in the coming days due to dry and sunny weather.

The risk is assessed as high in Götaland, Svealand and parts of southern Norrland. Around Bohuslän, Karlstad and Blekinge it is deemed extremely high.

Several fires already broke out on Sunday. Helicopters waterbombed a blaze outside Hultsfred and one south of Boxholm. Both covered about two hectares.

– It will be very dry and sunny weather in the coming week here, says Magnus Joelsson, duty meteorologist at SMHI. He advises caution with machinery and checking local burning bans.
