Sokhna Port begins commercial operations at three new basins

Egypt’s Sokhna Port has started commercial operations at basins 3, 5 and 6 along with the Trans Cargo terminal, the Ministry of Transport announced on 7 July.

The opening was marked by the arrival of the first vessel at the Trans Cargo terminal. The general cargo ship CHIPOLBROK SUN sailed from Saudi Arabia’s Duba Port. It measures about 200 metres in length and has a deadweight of roughly 30,435 tonnes.

The Ministry of Transport said the terminal meets modern standards and will deliver integrated services for ships and cargo. The new facilities form part of a wider development project at Sokhna Port. This project belongs to the Sokhna-Alexandria logistics corridor that links the Red Sea and the Mediterranean.

The upgrades follow directives from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to improve Egyptian ports. The ministry added that the changes aim to handle higher volumes and support export and import activity.
