Titans hold off Browns in close 31-29 victory

The Tennessee Titans improved to 2-11 with a 31-29 win over the Cleveland Browns in Week 14, thanks to strong running from Tony Pollard. Rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders threw for 364 yards and three touchdowns while adding a rushing score for Cleveland, but an interception and failed two-point conversions proved costly. Cam Ward managed two touchdown passes for Tennessee in the tight contest.

In a back-and-forth Week 14 matchup on a snowy day at Cleveland's lakefront, the Tennessee Titans edged the Cleveland Browns 31-29. The game featured a showdown between rookie quarterbacks Shedeur Sanders of the Browns and Cam Ward of the Titans, both highly touted from the 2025 NFL Draft.

Sanders, a fifth-round pick (No. 144) from Colorado, delivered a career-best performance with 364 passing yards, three touchdowns, and one interception on 23-of-42 attempts. He also rushed for 29 yards and a touchdown on three carries, joining Joe Burrow as the only rookie QBs in the Super Bowl era with over 350 passing yards, three passing TDs, and a rushing TD in one game. Sanders connected on a 60-yard touchdown pass to Jerry Jeudy with 2:47 left in the first half, giving Cleveland a 17-14 lead. He later added a 1-yard touchdown pass to David Njoku in the second quarter and a 7-yard rushing score in the fourth. His final touchdown, a 7-yard pass to rookie tight end Harold Fannin Jr. with 1:03 remaining, brought the Browns within 31-29 after a contested catch.

However, Sanders' third-quarter interception, heaved into coverage and picked off by Xavier Woods, led to a 32-yard Tony Pollard touchdown run that put Tennessee ahead 21-17. A fumble on the first two-point conversion and an incomplete pass by running back Quinshon Judkins on the second attempt sealed the Browns' fate at 3-10.

Ward, the No. 1 overall pick from Miami, completed 14 of 28 passes for 117 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception. He found Elic Ayomanor for a 14-yard opening-drive score and Chimere Dike for a third-and-goal touchdown from the 5-yard line, extending Tennessee's lead to 28-17. Pollard rushed for 161 yards and two scores on 25 carries, bolstering Ward's effort. Browns linebacker Devin Bush intercepted Ward early, setting up a field goal.

Browns coach Kevin Stefanski praised Sanders: "He fought throughout the game... some really, really good moments." Titans defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons told Sanders postgame, "That's his team now, and you're going to be a star in this league." The loss highlighted ongoing challenges for Cleveland, including center Ethan Pocic's potential season-ending Achilles injury.
