US drug czar warns Mexican officials linked to cartels

Sara Carter, director of the US Office of National Drug Control Policy, stated that Donald Trump’s government is targeting Mexican officials connected to organized crime.

In an interview, Carter explained that operations include attacks in Sinaloa against those protecting the Sinaloa Cartel, Los Chapitos and Los Mayitos. She said funds of suspected traffickers are seized, including those inside the Mexican government.

The official acknowledged cooperation with President Claudia Sheinbaum. She highlighted progress against Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, alias El Mencho, where the United States provided intelligence for an operation on February 22 in Tapalpa, Jalisco.

On May 27, Secretary Omar García Harfuch reported that 85 current and former officials have been detained for ties to organized crime during Sheinbaum’s administration.
