Vijay tells Assembly of firm stand on State rights and secularism

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay on Tuesday reaffirmed his government's commitment to cooperative federalism while maintaining political opposition to the Centre.

Speaking on the Motion of Thanks to the Governor’s Address, Mr. Vijay said there would be no compromise on the State’s rights or the TVK’s political principles. He stressed that the government would distinguish between political ideology and administrative cooperation with the Centre.

Mr. Vijay highlighted measures to address law and order, including the launch of the Singappen Special Force to prevent crimes against women. He noted that drug-related issues predated his assumption of office on May 10, 2026, and criticised the previous government for neglecting them.

The Chief Minister also pointed to representation in his cabinet, with eight ministers from Scheduled Castes and four women. He said his government operated democratically and welcomed constructive criticism.
