VW and Aumovio resume receiving Nexperia chips from China

Volkswagen and supplier Aumovio are receiving semiconductors from Nexperia in China again after a temporary export ban. The lifting of the ban followed an agreement between China and the United States. Initial deliveries have already taken place.

China has lifted its export ban on products from semiconductor manufacturer Nexperia. Volkswagen and automotive supplier Aumovio are receiving chips from China again, according to their own statements. Initial exports have already occurred, said Ralf Brandstätter, Volkswagen board member responsible for the China business, to Handelsblatt. An Aumovio spokesperson had previously confirmed that the company received an export exception for Nexperia chips from China.

China imposed the export ban on Nexperia products at the end of September after the Dutch government placed the company under its control. Nexperia belongs to the Chinese Wingtech Group and is headquartered in the Netherlands. Last week, China announced it would make exceptions. Brandstätter stated that the Chinese Ministry of Commerce reacted quickly after an agreement with the United States, enabling the export exceptions. The effectiveness of the new procedure would depend mainly on bilateral relations between China and the United States, according to Brandstätter.

The auto industry had warned of production halts in recent weeks due to missing Nexperia semiconductors. Nexperia is a major global supplier of semiconductors used in vehicle electronics. Although Nexperia chips are also produced in Europe, they are often shipped to China for further processing before being re-exported to European customers.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU) spoke on Friday on the sidelines of the climate summit in Belém, Brazil, with Dutch Prime Minister Dirk Schoof about the deliveries. "It seems the path is now open for a resumption of deliveries," Merz said to journalists afterward.
