Emmanuel Macron asked the armed forces on Friday to mobilize for maximum reinforcement of civil security. Sébastien Lecornu announced the deployment of 500 additional soldiers to Gironde, bringing the total to about 1,000 troops on the ground.
Gironde prefect Sophie Brocas ordered the evacuation of communes in the Bordeaux area and the Cap Ferret peninsula. Laurent Nunez stated that 110,000 evacuations had taken place in the southwest and that the fire had burned 14,000 hectares.
The interior minister described the blaze as the « biggest fire of the season ». Storms brought rain in the evening, but officials warned that it would not be enough to extinguish the flames.
