A worker at the CMPC plant in Laja, Biobío Region, died inside the facilities after being reported missing on Sunday, April 5. The company confirmed the death early Monday morning and had activated internal search protocols earlier. They are cooperating with authorities to establish the causes.
The first officer of Paper Machine 12, with 19 years of experience at the company, was reported missing inside the CMPC plant in Laja during Sunday, April 5. The company immediately activated internal protocols to locate him.
"Planta Laja comunica que se encuentra desaparecido, al interior de las instalaciones, un trabajador, específicamente el primer oficial de la Máquina 12", CMPC stated in an initial communiqué. Its teams took all necessary actions following established procedures.
After several hours of searching, the worker was found, with his death confirmed in the early morning hours. "Lamentamos profundamente informar que, en horas de esta madrugada, falleció, al interior de Planta Laja, uno de nuestros trabajadores", the company expressed.
CMPC said it is cooperating with authorities to clarify the incident. "Estamos colaborando con las autoridades respectivas y realizando las tareas correspondientes para determinar, a la mayor brevedad posible, las causas del trágico hecho", they added, offering condolences to the family, loved ones, and colleagues.
