In Badaut town of Baghpat district, Uttar Pradesh, 10-year-old Irshad fell into an open safety tank at a banquet hall under construction by the municipal corporation near Idara Wali Masjid on Barkha Road. He slipped while playing with friends and plunged into the deep water-filled pit. His body was spotted floating in the tank about two hours later.
Local residents struggled to retrieve the body, but it was too late. Irshad was the elder son of Shamshad, originally from Bilouchpur, with the family living in a rented house in Badaut. His father works as a laborer to support them.
Angry villagers protested at the site, highlighting the lack of safety measures. The toilet pits had been left open for a long time without covers or warning signs. The municipal administration has remained silent so far.
Irshad's uncle Aqeel said, "Irshad was my nephew who fell into the tank while playing. We were searching for him everywhere but couldn't find him. Then someone spotted him and informed us. By the time we pulled him out, he was dead. This is a banquet hall site."
