Adarsh Gourav to lead 'Gangster on the Run' film

Adarsh Gourav, known for his roles in 'The White Tiger' and 'Alien: Earth', will headline the upcoming film 'Gangster on the Run'. The project adapts a nonfiction book about Mumbai gangster Rahul Jadhav's transformation into a marathon runner and social worker. Directed by Prosit Roy of 'Paatal Lok' fame, the true-crime drama seeks international co-production partners.

Project Overview

'Gangster on the Run' is a feature film adaptation of Puja Changoiwala's nonfiction book, focusing on Rahul Jadhav, a former Mumbai sharpshooter who navigated violence and addiction before finding redemption through self-reflection and rehabilitation. Now a marathon runner and social worker, Jadhav aids at-risk youth. The story blends true-crime elements with themes of transformation and consequence, aiming for a global audience as a prestige drama.

Cast and Crew

Adarsh Gourav stars as Rahul Jadhav, describing the role as "one of the most layered, demanding characters I’ve encountered — someone shaped by violence yet capable of profound transformation." Director Prosit Roy, who earned a Filmfare Award for 'Paatal Lok', calls it "a gritty, human tale that blends redemption, identity and consequence." The screenplay comes from Abhishek Banerjee, known for 'Pari' and 'Paatal Lok' Season 2.

Producers include Sidharth Jain of The Story Ink, who has handled over 250 book-to-screen deals and produced Netflix's 'Trial by Fire'; Kanchan Marathe, with credits on 'Andhadhun' and 'Scoop'; and Rohit Vedprakash, involved in Netflix series like 'Mismatched' and 'Khakee'. Partial financing is from Dubai-based Filmoney Ink, which supports Indian genre films for international markets.

Development and Release

Unveiled at the WAVES Film Bazaar during the International Film Festival of India in Goa, the project is in development with producers seeking co-production partners at Content London in December. Jain noted, "With Prosit and Adarsh coming together, the film has both artistic muscle and international reach." Marathe highlighted its "global crime-thriller sensibility," while Vedprakash emphasized its potential to "travel — creatively, commercially and culturally." No release date has been announced.
