Al Jardine to stage full Beach Boys Love You performance in Los Angeles

Al Jardine, a founding member of the Beach Boys, will perform the entire 1977 album The Beach Boys Love You for the first time in concert on February 27 at the United Theater on Broadway in Los Angeles. The show, co-produced by singer-songwriter Alex Jules, marks a special one-night event featuring missing tracks from Jardine's ongoing tour. It coincides with the release of a new box set chronicling the album's era.

Al Jardine and members of Brian Wilson’s touring band have toured the United States this year, performing nearly all songs from the Beach Boys' 1977 album The Beach Boys Love You. Fans have awaited a complete rendition, including the tracks “Mona,” “Let’s Put Our Hearts Together,” and “Love Is a Woman,” which have not yet appeared in their sets.

That changes on February 27, when Jardine and the Pet Sounds Band present the album in full at the United Theater on Broadway in Los Angeles. Described as the “world premiere” of the LP 49 years after its release, the concert will also include selections from 15 Big Ones and Adult/Child, alongside Beach Boys hits. Jardine, who sang lead on “Honkin’ Down the Highway,” reflected on the album's creation: “Carl Wilson was guiding Brian through the process of making the record,” he told Rolling Stone last year. “And you’ll hear a lot of Dennis on there. Mike and I came in and basically filled in the harmonies on the backgrounds. That was about it.”

The event is co-produced by Alex Jules, who has toured with the Monkees, Wings and Moody Blues founding member Denny Laine, and Badfinger’s Joey Molland. Jules previously organized the L.A. wildfire relief concert Let’s Get L.Aid, featuring performers like “Weird Al” Yankovic, Eric Idle, Nancy Sinatra, Paul Shaffer, Rufus Wainwright, and Jardine. “In the aftermath, some of the folks from Al’s camp inquired about my interest in working with him as everyone was excited to do the show and see the positive results,” Jules explained. He proposed the full-album show to celebrate Jardine’s performances.

Jules highlighted the timing: “Fans can expect not only the world premiere of Love You by a founding member of the Beach Boys in its entirety... but also selections from 15 Big Ones and Adult/Child as well as all of the Beach Boys hits — masterfully recreated by Brian Wilson’s band and Al Jardine, whose voice sounds remarkably unaffected by time.” This aligns with the release of the box set We Gotta Groove: The Brother Studio Years, detailing the period around the album.

Jardine’s tour with the Pet Sounds Band starts February 21 in Stateline, Nevada, with stops in Jacksonville, Clearwater, and Sarasota, Florida; Collingswood, New Jersey; and Ridgefield, Connecticut, before heading to Australia in June. Those dates will feature nearly all of Love You, but the complete performance is exclusive to Los Angeles. “As of now, this is a one-night-only world premiere event,” Jules said. “Not to be missed.” Tickets are available now.
