Alexander Steen to become St. Louis Blues general manager

Alexander Steen will take over as general manager of the St. Louis Blues this summer, succeeding Doug Armstrong. The 42-year-old former player becomes the second Swede in the role after Patrik Allvin. The transition was announced in summer 2024 and has been prepared meticulously.

Alexander Steen, who spent 12 seasons with the Blues as a player and contributed to their 2019 Stanley Cup win, retired in 2020 due to back issues. Since 2023, he has worked in the club's front office, gradually assuming more responsibilities this spring. Doug Armstrong, GM since 2010 and architect of the 2019 championship, expressed strong confidence in his successor. “In practice, Alex is the general manager now from the players' perspective,” Armstrong said. “No more trades, no more waivers this season. Now Alex must put his stamp on the team in the exit meetings and set his expectations.”
