Alvin Garrett releases fifth studio album Talk to her like this

Renowned R&B songwriter Alvin Garrett has launched his fifth studio album, Talk to Her Like This, on major streaming platforms. The 10-track project emphasizes intentional storytelling and romantic maturity in the Southern soul tradition. Garrett, a Birmingham native with a 25-year career, describes it as a vocal journal exploring emotional intelligence and vulnerability.

Alvin Garrett, known for writing hits for artists including Joe, Kelly Rowland, Fantasia, and Ruben Studdard, has released his latest album, Talk to Her Like This. Executive produced by Garrett himself, the album consists of 10 tracks and represents a shift toward personal narratives. It builds on his previous success, such as the 2023 single "Til I Get Back To You," which reached No. 15 on the Billboard R&B charts.

The lead single, "Roll Slide Roll," is climbing the Billboard R&B charts and incorporates traditional Southern soul elements, reminiscent of skating rinks and community events. Garrett's work extends beyond music; in 2024, he received the Presidential Medal of Honor from President Joe Biden for his contributions to The Write Life, a songwriting therapy program for at-risk and justice-involved youth, in collaboration with the Dannon Project.

Garrett shared his perspective on the album's purpose: "To me, R&B music has always been a surrogate voice for our deeply human experiences. I just hope that Talk to Her Like This becomes the project that people gravitate to when they need a little assistance telling someone how much they love them."

Currently, Garrett is touring with "Songs in the Key of AG," a performance that connects his originals to the style of Al Green, blending soul, gospel, and blues. With five studio albums to his name and a recent Stellar Award nomination for Song of the Year, Garrett remains a key figure in modern soul music's preservation and development.
