Amanda Anisimova credits Aryna Sabalenka for improving WTA locker room

American tennis player Amanda Anisimova has praised World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka for helping create a more welcoming environment for younger players on the WTA Tour.

Anisimova highlighted Sabalenka's efforts during a BBC interview. She noted that the Belarusian player treats newcomers with respect despite her status as a senior competitor.

“I love the older players who treat the new ones coming on with respect and make them feel welcome, because it is kind of scary when you are entering a new career,” Anisimova said. She added that Sabalenka has normalized this approach among top players by being social and inclusive.

Anisimova also mentioned her close friendship with Sabalenka and Paula Badosa. The trio often spends time together between matches, maintaining a light and fun atmosphere away from competition.

Sabalenka, 28, has won three WTA Tour titles in 2026. She has previously spoken about facing hostility in the locker room in 2023 amid tensions related to the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine.
