Anjimile announces new album You're free to go

North Carolina singer-songwriter Anjimile has revealed details of his upcoming album, You're free to go, produced by Brad Cook. The record, set for release on March 13 via 4AD, follows his 2023 effort The King. A music video for the lead single, Like you really mean it, accompanies the announcement.

Anjimile, the North Carolina-based singer-songwriter, has unveiled his latest project, the album You're free to go. This follow-up to his 2023 release The King was helmed by producer Brad Cook, known for his work in indie and folk circles. The album is scheduled to arrive on March 13 through the label 4AD.

The announcement highlights the lead single, "Like You Really Mean It," which features a roller disco-themed music video directed by Caity Arthur. In a press statement, Anjimile shared the personal inspiration behind the track: "I wrote this to make my girlfriend want to give me a kiss. We live about an hour apart, and I was just by myself thinking about her. Thinking about wanting a kiss. What could I do to get a kiss from my sweetheart? Write a song about it! Anyway, it worked."

Prior to this, Anjimile released the standalone single "Auld Lang Syne II" last year, also produced by Cook. His previous album, The King, marked a significant milestone in his career, blending cathartic indie folk elements. The new record's tracklist includes titles such as "You're Free to Go," "Rust & Wire," "Waits For Me," "Turning Away," "Exquisite Skeleton," "The Store," "Ready or Not," "Point of View," "Afarin," "Destroying You," and "Enough."

This release continues Anjimile's trajectory of introspective songwriting, building on the acclaim from his earlier works.
