Anne Hathaway said the team behind Princess Diaries 3 recently achieved a story breakthrough after restarting work on the script.
Hathaway shared the update during an appearance on SiriusXM’s Radio Andy. She noted that the previous script direction was scrapped in favor of a new approach.
“I can say I think we had a story breakthrough,” Hathaway said. “I think we are moving in the right direction. The script that we were working on — we kind of had to start over with this new direction, which is not the update I think anybody wants, but we all feel really good that this is gonna be the one.”
She added that her pregnancy with her third child has delayed any firm timeline for production. Adele Lim is attached to direct the film, which has been in development since 2022.
Hathaway will reprise her role as Mia Thermopolis. No release date has been set.
