After two years of relative silence since its announcement, Arkane Studios has shared a positive update on the development of Marvel's Blade. The studio director assured fans that the team remains committed to the project despite industry challenges. No release date has been set, but progress continues on the vampire slayer title.
Marvel's Blade, a video game adaptation of the iconic vampire-hunting hero, was first revealed in 2023 by Arkane Studios, known for the Dishonored series. At the time, the project was described as being early in development, accompanied by a CG trailer that excited fans of the Marvel universe.
The gaming landscape has seen significant shifts since then, particularly with Xbox closing several studios and cancelling projects like Perfect Dark earlier this year. These events raised concerns about the viability of licensed titles such as Marvel's Blade, given the high costs and revenue-sharing requirements with Disney.
However, Dinga Bakaba, Studio and Co-Creative Director at Arkane Lyon, recently addressed these worries in a response to a fan on Twitter. He confirmed that development is ongoing and emphasized the team's dedication.
“The team is hard at work, everyone is super proud and out doing themselves,” said Bakaba. “Please be patient, it will be a special game and we all hope it will be meeting the high standards that we set for ourselves and for you all.”
This update arrives ahead of the new year, providing reassurance amid broader Marvel gaming efforts, which have included successful titles from developers like Insomniac Games on Spider-Man and Guardians of the Galaxy. While no specific release window has been announced, the project's timeline suggests it may not arrive before 2027, allowing ample time for the studio to meet its ambitious goals.
