Autopase backs Jara's version of TAG debt payment

Autopase confirmed candidate Jeannette Jara's account of paying a 2019 TAG debt, taking responsibility for the date confusion. This followed a TV debate questioning the recent payment. Jara shared proof supporting her claim of payment in 2020.

The controversy arose during Tuesday's debate by the National Television Association (Anatel), where Jeannette Jara, the officialist candidate of Unidad por Chile and the Christian Democrats, was questioned about a debt exceeding $600,000 for driving without a TAG in 2019. An Autopase document indicated payment in November 2025, which Jara called 'fake news' and claimed she settled shortly after the infraction.

On Wednesday, during an event in Peumo, O’Higgins Region, Jara accused the false document of originating from the Municipality of Santiago, where political operations favored José Antonio Kast. Mayor Mario Desbordes (RN) denied the claims on X: “You get caught lying, and instead of admitting and at least apologizing, you launch another very crude lie. The information circulating about your TAG debts does not come from municipal officials”.

Later, Jara posted proof of the 2020 payment on social media: “Although I was clear on repeated occasions, some insist on spreading lies about me. Here is the payment receipt that confirms what I stated insistently. Enough fake news”.

On Thursday, Autopase issued a statement supporting Jara: “We have detected an inconsistency between the payment dates reported in the document issued by this platform and the effective payment date”. They announced a thorough review of the certificate functionality, temporarily disabling it, and deeply regretted “the inconveniences caused”.

This incident occurs days before the December 14, 2025, presidential runoff.
