Colorado middle-distance runner Avery Pearson has been selected to represent Canada at the 2026 World Athletics Indoor Championships. She will compete in the women's 800 meters event in Poland next March. The announcement highlights her standout indoor season with the University of Colorado Buffs.
Avery Pearson, a senior middle-distance standout for the University of Colorado, has earned a spot on Team Canada for the 2026 World Athletics Indoor Championships. Athletics Canada made the announcement on March 11, 2026. Pearson is set to compete in the women's 800 meters at the event, scheduled for March 20-22, 2026, in Kujawy Pomorze, Poland, at Arena Torun.
This selection comes after a remarkable indoor season for Pearson. She became the first Buff to break the two-minute barrier in the 800 meters indoors, clocking 1:59.98 at altitude, which established a new Colorado program record. Her raw time of 2:00.76 places her sixth all-time in Canadian indoor history and third among NCAA indoor performances at altitude.
Pearson also secured the 600-yard title at the Big 12 Indoor Championships, setting a meet record and solidifying her status among top middle-distance runners in the country. Looking ahead, she is preparing for the NCAA Indoor Championships, with the women's 800 meters first round on Friday, March 13, at 5:25 p.m. MT. There, she aims to challenge the Canadian indoor record of 1:59.87.
The University of Colorado track and field program continues to support Pearson's international ambitions, as detailed on CUBuffs.com.
