Azul Azul directors hold emergency meeting after CDA raid

On Monday, May 4, the Fiscalía Oriente raided the Centro Deportivo Azul as part of the Caso Sartor investigation. Azul Azul directors held a virtual meeting that evening to discuss the situation. President Cecilia Pérez sought to reassure the board.

The operation began around 12:45 at the Centro Deportivo Azul in La Cisterna, led by prosecutor Juan Pablo Araya and PDI officers. Documents, computers, board minutes and other materials were seized under an order from the 4th Guarantee Court of Santiago. The raid also targeted the home of Michael Clark, former president of the concessionaire.

That evening at 19:00, Cecilia Pérez called a Zoom meeting with the nine directors and university representatives. Lawyer Jorge Arredondo stated that the concessionaire is not part of the investigation and that the club will continue to cooperate with authorities. Directors agreed to focus on sporting matters and avoid public statements about the case.

Universidad de Chile coach Fernando Gago addressed the matter on Friday. “There are legal issues that belong to the club and the club solves them. We are very dedicated to the sporting side,” he said. The coach confirmed he will mainly maintain contact with sporting director Manuel Mayo.
