Bethesda American Medical Plaza becomes Ethiopia’s first JCI accredited hospital

Bethesda American Medical Plaza has become the first hospital in Ethiopia to receive Joint Commission International accreditation. The milestone was announced at a ceremony marking the facility’s first anniversary. Officials highlighted its role in raising national healthcare standards.

The accreditation followed a detailed review of clinical care protocols, infection prevention, medication management, governance and operational performance. Minister of Health Dr. Mekdes Daba attended the event with senior government officials, diplomatic representatives and development partners.

Dr. Mekdes stated that the government remains committed to supporting quality private healthcare institutions that modernize services across the country. Hospital leaders credited long-term investments in infrastructure, staff training and quality systems for the achievement.

The JCI designation offers patients independent confirmation of reduced clinical risks and a focus on patient-centered care. Experts expect the facility to act as a benchmark for other providers in both public and private sectors.
