Biel Chess Festival to open with Masters Triathlon

The 59th Biel International Chess Festival is scheduled to start on 11 July 2026 in Switzerland. It features invitational events including the Masters Triathlon and Generations Challenger with several top players. A simultaneous exhibition on 10 July will launch the two-week program.

The festival runs from 11 to 24 July 2026 and includes classical, rapid and blitz formats across multiple tournaments. Levon Aronian, Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus and Matthias Bluebaum are among the participants in the Masters Triathlon.

Alexandra Kosteniuk and Vaishali Rameshbabu will compete in the Generations Challenger. The events use a triathlon system of blitz, rapid and classical games.

Lu Miaoyi is set to face twenty opponents simultaneously on 10 July at 18:00 in the Congress Centre. Additional open tournaments and one-day events are also planned for players of all levels.
