Bruce Springsteen performs at Obama Presidential Center opening

The Obama Presidential Center opened Thursday in Chicago with a star-studded ceremony that featured performances by Bruce Springsteen and other major artists.

The center opened on June 18 with Bruce Springsteen taking the stage near the end of the ceremony to deliver an acoustic version of his 1999 song "Land of Hope and Dreams."

Springsteen addressed the Obamas directly from the stage, saying he was glad to be there for President Obama, Michelle, Malia and Sasha. He referenced a line from Obama's Selma speech about striving to improve the nation.

Other performers included the Roots, Eddie Vedder, John Legend, U2's Bono and the Edge, Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Hudson and Stevie Wonder. The Roots opened the music portion while Wonder closed the event with a medley and an all-star finale of "Higher Ground."

Springsteen and Obama have collaborated publicly since the 2008 campaign, including rallies, a 2009 Lincoln Memorial concert and a 2021 podcast series.
