A suspicious burnt smell in a train heading to Munich led to the evacuation of around 200 passengers in the Lindau district on Saturday evening. The train was stopped at Hergatz station and inspected by firefighters. Officials suspect a technical defect with no fire risk.
The incident occurred shortly after the Lindau-Reutin stop in a train bound for Munich. A Bundespolizei spokesperson said passengers noticed a burnt smell. The train was then unscheduled stopped at Hergatz station, and all passengers were evacuated.
Firefighters inspected the train and confirmed the smell but detected no fire. The Bundespolizei spokesperson indicated a technical defect is suspected. The train is scheduled for a technical check on Saturday.
The line was blocked for about one and a half hours. A railway spokesperson stated that replacement bus services were arranged to transport passengers to Munich. Earlier reports came from the Schwäbische portal.
