Armed group ambushed a Lamborghini Urus in Zapopan, Jalisco, killing three, including businessman Alberto Prieto Valencia, known as 'El Prieto', and his daughter. Four escorts were injured in the ensuing shootout. Authorities are investigating possible links to illegal betting in the Mercado de Abastos.
On December 29, 2025, an armed attack took place in the Residencial Victoria neighborhood, on the borders of Guadalajara and Zapopan, Jalisco. Alberto Prieto Valencia, alias 'El Prieto' or 'Don Beto', was traveling in an orange Lamborghini Urus valued at about 5 million pesos, accompanied by his underage daughter and escorted by a black GMC Yukon. The attackers, presumably more than five subjects in recent-model vehicles, opened fire, prompting an armed response from the escorts and a several-minute shootout.
The fatalities include Prieto Valencia, his daughter, and one escort. Four escorts survived with bullet wounds: a 25-year-old man treated at Cruz Verde Las Águilas, and two around 40 and 50 years old at Cruz Verde Norte; one is in grave condition. Experts from the Jalisco Institute of Forensic Sciences collected over 100 spent casings and magazines from long high-power weapons on the public road, at the intersection of Lapislázuli Avenue and Bahía.
Prieto Valencia was a trader of grains and cereals in warehouses on Chicharro and Coyul streets, and owner of the transport company Odal, which provides logistics services in closed, dry, and refrigerated boxes. He had been detained twice by Guadalajara and Zapopan police for possession of exclusive army firearms but was released both times without judicial proceedings.
Salvador Zamora Zamora, Jalisco's Secretary of Government, mentioned lines of investigation, including possible links of Prieto to 'illegal Colombian raffles' in the Mercado de Abastos. 'At some point, a link of this person to those illegal Colombian raffles that appeared in the Mercado de Abastos was pointed out. There are journalistic notes that exist and that must be taken into account in the investigation', he said. The Jalisco Prosecutor's Office restricted the area and, with the State Public Security Secretariat and federal authorities, secured two related vehicles and is searching for the attackers by land and air. The incident occurs less than six months before Guadalajara hosts the 2026 World Cup.
