Cal Raleigh named AL Silver Slugger award winner at catcher

Catcher Cal Raleigh of the Seattle Mariners has been named the American League Silver Slugger Award winner at his position. The 28-year-old switch-hitter earned his first career Silver Slugger after finishing as a finalist for four straight seasons since 2022. Raleigh's outstanding 2025 season included leading the majors with 60 home runs.

Major League Baseball and Louisville Slugger announced that Cal Raleigh has won the American League Silver Slugger Award at catcher. He was selected over finalists Shea Langeliers of the Athletics and Salvador Perez of the Royals.

Raleigh becomes the eighth player and first catcher in Mariners franchise history to receive the honor. In 159 games during the 2025 season, he batted .247 with 147 hits in 596 at-bats, scoring 110 runs, hitting 24 doubles, 60 home runs, driving in 125 RBI, stealing 14 bases, and drawing 97 walks. His on-base percentage stood at .359, slugging at .589, and OPS at .948.

Among qualified catchers in 2025, Raleigh ranked first in games played, plate appearances (705), runs scored, home runs, RBI, walks, OBP, SLG, and OPS. He tied for second in hits and ranked second in stolen bases. League-wide, he led the majors in home runs and topped the AL in RBI, while ranking second in slugging, walks, extra-base hits (84), total bases (351), and runs scored, third in OPS and plate appearances, and second in fWAR (9.1).

Raleigh's 60 home runs made him the seventh player in MLB history to reach that mark in a season, a feat accomplished 10 times total. He set records for the most home runs by a switch-hitter, surpassing Mickey Mantle's 54 in 1961, and by a Mariners player, topping Ken Griffey Jr.'s 56 in 1997 and 1998. He also became the ninth catcher to post 100 runs and 100 RBI in a season since 1999, and his 169 OPS+ ranked fourth-highest ever for a catcher (minimum 500 PA and 50% games at the position).

Beyond the Silver Slugger, Raleigh was named MLBPA Player of the Year, AL Outstanding Player, and Sporting News MLB Player of the Year. He is a finalist for the BBWAA AL MVP award, to be announced on November 13.
